I'm getting increasingly concerned about tomorrow evening and night down
here in the SW. Even on low ground there is the prospect of some heavy snow after heavy rain and the gale force northerlies swing in on back of the deep channel low. Up here on Dartmoor it is likely that Princetown could be cut off for days by deep drifts, even more lowly Haytor/Widecombe/Postbridge and Moretonhampstead are threatened. The wind won't be quite as strong in the SE but even here some heavy snow is possible after rain. France looks like being battered by severe gales once again. Will -- |

Countryfile forecast saying 'winter storm'. Don't think they actually mentioned 'Polar Low' if that is what it is. Time to check alternative lighting and heating arrangements, food and water supplies, etc. Focus of MetO warnings is rain turning to snow. Query winds likely to be damaging [apart from driving the precipitation]? If 'storm' means that force of wind...gales mentioned above. Digressing somewhat, the snow a week ago stopped local supermarket getting deliveries for most of a day - how bad does weather have to get before the 'supply chain' shows noticeable degradation? -- Peter Thomas |

I plead sleep deprivation and consequent brain-fade, but it was a very good ceilidh last night. In Surrey, band from the Midlands and a couple of dancers from as far away as Norfolk. Time to check alternative As ever. -- Peter Thomas |
