It appears that I need to replece the reed switch on my Davis VP1 station
rain sensor as it is was not operating for a time yesterday. If anyone here has carried out this repair it would be much appreciated if they could supply details of suitable replacement switch and any other tips in how to carry out the work. Alan |

Alan Sorry Alan, don't have the answer, but I asked it before once and mislaid it. Please issue again, in nice simple terms. :-) David Mitchell. |

Before we moved over to Instromet for AWS readings we used a Davis VP that
needed to have its tipping bucket arrangement replaced. The problem was the same...faulty reed switch. John Dann (Prodata) was able to supply a replacement...I am afraid the whole bucket system needed replacing and removing it from the ISS was quite tricky..prizing back the flanges and hoping they didn't snap. My advice...give John Dann a ring, I always found him to be very helpful and quick in finding a solution. Mike "Alan Gardiner" wrote in message ... I've done it on my Oregon Sci. gauge. The switch is noncritical apart from the size so take it apart and get your ruler out. Looks like taking it apart might be the hard bit for others posts... Reed switches are delicate, particularly the wire to glass seal. Always hold the wire in needle nosed pliers between the switch and any bending to be done. Also use the pliers as a heat sink when soldering. Coat the repaired reed and new soldered joints with something to keep the damp out. I use a spray conformal coating but I guess a bit of polyurethane varnish would do. Coat after testing... -- Cheers Dave. |

Alan Thanks for the information everyone, I think my soldering skills are just about up to the job. I just need to choose a decent day. Alan |
