Maximum of 12.4C around noon, after a mainly sunny morning. Lots of
cloud along the north coast, and hills exposed to the north coast, but the cloud broke readily as it descended towards the south coast. Clouding over more generally now (14:00) Graham Penzance |

Valentia/Penzance/Culdrose all around 3C at 13:00. Helps explain why the cloud dispersed so readily here this morning. Graham Penzance |

The side of Hameldown ridge looks quite white in places from the A38. Will (Haytor, devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

cloud along the north coast, and hills exposed to the north coast, but the cloud broke readily as it descended towards the south coast. Got up to 12.6°C here at 13:30 in the sunshine today though it did cloud over after that. The warmest day so far of 2009. It was quite a mild start this morning after an overnight low of 6.6°C. Mean temperatures for the month now gradually rising (1st - 17th) Mean min: 1.1°C Mean max: 7.0°C Mean: 4.0°C. Rain/snowfall: 51.9 mm. Sunshine still a tad disappointing at only 46.3 hours so far. (18:30), 9.0°C, RH 74%, DP 4.6°C, 1028 hPa (S), Wind 3 mph WNW, 4.7 hours' sunshine today. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

![]() Mean min: 1.1°C Mean max: 7.0°C Mean: 4.0°C. Rain/snowfall: 51.9 mm. Equivalent figures for Penzance Mean Min:- 2.9C Mean Max:- 8.6C Rain/Snowfall:- 90.4mm It's beginning to look as though this month will finish up being very similar to 2006, when the mean temperature in Penzance was 6.2C. Graham Penzance And from not that many miles away in Tideswell: February to date: Mean max 2.0 Mean min -2.2 Mean temp -0.1 Rain 35.2 mm It's this variation over relatively short distances that make our climate so interesting. Will be way above the cold 1996 mean of 1.2c! -- Graham |

The lowest maximum temperature in Jan 1963 was 0.0C. During my period of records (1991-present) Coldest January 4.75C in 1997 Warmest January 9.1C in 2007 January 2009 6.4C 1991-2009 average 7.5C Some Historic Averages 1861-1880 6.6C 1961-1990 6.8C Graham Penzance |
