Some readers will know of this project. After 4 years, 4 months
and 12 days I finally gained access to the site in early-March, and observations there began this morning. It is a well-exposed (or will be when the hedge is cut) hilltop site. I will continue to take max/min/grassmin/rainfall in my frost-pocket garden. The observatory is part of the Chilterns Observatory Trust, a charitable trust set up two years ago to run a weather-station including a working museum of traditional instruments; a meteorological/climatological library; to provide a source of advice and guidance to non-professional observers, including supplying some instruments (chiefly manual raingauges); and to offer a safe home for observers' records and instruments in the form of a legacy when they are no longer required so that they do not end up in a skip as so often has happened in the past. The trustees are myself, Stephen Burt, Roger Brugge and Joe Hunt. All aspects of the Trust's work are now functioning. Philip PS This has nothing to do with the date just in case anyone wondered |
