Looks like the hot spell could last rather longer than initially expected.
The thundery breakdown now looks like being Wednesday at the earliest.
Excellent

I'm looking to beat my all time high of 28.6C this week!

It'll be good practice - looking on Ceefax at some of the places I'll be
visiting in America over the next couple of months has me a little
worried - LA has temperatures approaching 45°C which is a good 15°C
hotter than anything I've experienced in this country :-/

But remember, the States has a lot more air conditioned buildings than this
country.

Are you sure about that figure? That sounds more like the sort of
temperature I'd expect to find in Death Valley, rather than on the
coast.

I've just had a look he

http://www.nwsla.noaa.gov/climate/cvc.html

and the highest ever recorded temperature in LA appears to be 112F,
which I make 45C. However temperatures of 100F (38C) seem to be not
uncommon. Surprisingly, these seem to occur more often in September than
in any other month.

BBC is forecasting 45°C (113°F) on both Tuesday and Wednesday next week:

Not much good when you're in a tent. Or do they have air conditioned
tents over there as well?!

How reliable are their forecasts for foreign countries? Since, if I've
read it correctly, that would mean equalling or breaking the all-time
record on two consecutive days, I'm rather sceptical. And I notice that
the forecast minimum for today was 22, when the current temperature is
shown as being 18.

I've just had a look at the Los Angeles Times forecast at:

http://weather.latimes.com/US/CA/Los...ain=1#forecast

It paints a very different picture, with nothing higher than 94F (35C),
falling to a maximum of 30C on Wednesday.
