My point is the government should not have an "interest". In a true
democracy, only the people have interests, which the goverment's job
is to work for. Nothing else. Once they start having "interests" it
is time to get rid of them.

And my point is that the only "interest" that the government has is get
re-elected. Difficult when you are creating a scare story that, should
it work, inevitable results in a perceived drop in the standard of
living.

As Adolph Hitler pointed out (paraphrased) "tell them their
children are in danger, and they'll put up with pretty-much
anything."

Say what you like about agw, it certainly isn't part of some huge
international government conspiracy.

Not so much a conspiracy as a contageous disease - like Xianity.

Am I the only one who instantly changes channel as soon as they start
wittering on about man-made global warming being responsible for every
little climate fluctuation?

It's a conspiracy to brainwash us into thinking that it is, indeed, the
case.

Is there a viable purpose for such a conspiracy to exist? It's certainly
not in the governments interest and they would undoubtedly need to be
part of it.

What planet do you live on? The first law of politics is that
policitians always strive to increase their power and influence. A
good scare story helps no end, since they can bring in restrictions on
their citizens that would be unaaceptable for any other reason.

If you want a conspiracy theory based on politicians wishing to expand
their power, then we might hypothesise that global warning denial is
motivated by the desire to delay taking action until a point where
draconian governmental action is required (see Carbon Dictatorship).

(And no, I don't think that makes any more sense than your conspiracy
theory.)

My point is the government should not have an "interest". In a true
democracy, only the people have interests, which the goverment's job
is to work for. Nothing else. Once they start having "interests" it
is time to get rid of them.
