Another witness account on what appears to have been an instance of positive
lightning that prompted my post on June 9. It might be interesting for anyone who collects eyewitness acounts of such phenomena. My 20 yr-old son was watching a cricket match in Rothamsted Park about a mile away at the time, and actually saw the bolt, followed by a loud report a second or two later. He describes it as a single bolt, forking somewhat nearer to the ground. His reaction, and that of his friend, was one of utter bewilderment and astonishment, because the fairly unimpeded view from where they were - the cricket pitch at the top of Rothamsted is considerably elevated - was of generally blue sky with just a few white cumulus scattered about. Very interesting - hadn't heard of this phenomenon before. That'll get health and safety aficionados panicking ! Richard |
