Long sunny periods here this morning, wisps of cirrus. Cumulus
developed quite early inland, but west of Camborne/Redruth have virtually all gone again now. Some sc lapping onto the north coast, with temperature generally near 18C. Here in Penzance now up to a very pleasant 21.6C. No hot weather here so far this spell, just pleasantly warm. There's been no real easterly drift to bring the hot air down, as there was at the start of June, when it got above 23C and temperatures were near record level on Scilly. Had to go to Helston this morning, and called in at Porthleven where there was some superb clean surf which has finally arrived from the mid Atlantic depression, mainly affecting the south coast. Waves 6' - 8' on the Porthleven reef and running along the sea wall, which is occupied by tourists with cameras. Every so often a large wave catches the end of the wall, and shoots 20'+ in the air. If anybody gets washed off, it will of course be a 'freak wave' for the media. The wave direction must be just right for convergence, because the general swell is much less, even out at Sevenstones. Swell still small on the north coast www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm After a gloriously sunny afternoon, high and medium level cloud is now approaching from the south, mainly altocumulus & cirrostratus. We might actually get some rain tomorrow, I've only recorded 0.1mm since 17th. Graham Penzance |
