John,
Thankyou for that explanation, it's cleared a few things up in my mind, and I guess a few others. Well yes but only as the larger consituent parts/assemblies, ie console/anemometer/ISS but it's not a very cost-effective approach. [ISS being the 'Integrated Sensor Suite' comprising rain gauge + temp/hum sensors + solar/UV sensors if fitted. The separate anemometer is also supplied with the ISS]. 2. Would the WMII's rain gauge, temperature/humidity sensors and wind instruments plug into the Vantage pro monitoring system? Yes, but (and it's a big but) the VP stations integrate the data streams from the various sensors in a circuit board in the ISS rather than in the console. What this means in practice is that you need the VP ISS to perform the data integration and the VP console to read the resulting data stream. In other words, there's sadly not much practical benefit to plugging existing eg WMII sensors into a VP station because you still effectively need most of the components of a full VP station to integrate and read the data. At the moment I have no way of logging sunshine, this would be one benifit to me, also the addition of the grass minimum fitted into the logger. Although I don't see this in the Weatherlink 5.4 software. The data fields for supplementary sensors such as solar radiation, UV, aditional temp/hum sensors etc only fully show up when those specific sensors are enabled in the Weatherlink Setup screens. They are not activated and visible in a standard/default WL installation. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

Does such a 10m mast require planning permission? Not sure about planning permission, but also check if you live close to an airport - there are restrictions on the height of masts/aerials/etc. for the area immediately surrounding airports. I don't know the height restrictions off-hand, though (they may be more than 10m). Jonathan |
