You seem to have an enormous variation between your rain gauge s Hugh ,is
that due to location or the inadequacies of the AWS one ? RonB "Hugh Newbury" wrote in message ... Ron, Hugh's variation is about the same as mine, circa 25% lower in AWS.

You seem to have an enormous variation between your rain gauge s Hugh ,is that due to location or the inadequacies of the AWS one ? RonB Will, Thanks for that. I'm glad I'm not alone in finding the AWS quite off. I'm beginning to think it's partly the tipping bucket mechanism, partly the height above the ground, and partly the effect of gusty winds, the latter having much less of an effect on calmer days. I've demonstrated to my own satisfaction, if to no one else's, the possible causes of the differences, and I'm thinking of stopping the daily comparisons at the end of August, when I shall have completed six months worth of data collection on this subject. Of course, if people want me to continue, then I will do so. Hugh -- Hugh Newbury www.evershot-weather.org |
