Default Weather station location sought

The National Trust and Stowe School hope to start setting up a weather
station somewhere within Stowe Landscape Gardens during October (I shall be
there to advise).

Do any readers of this group have an observatory within, say, 30 miles of
Stowe / Silverstone on the Bucks / Northants border? Ideally this would be a
Met. Office approved site as an exemplar, but all others will eventually be
of interest.

There's a fully automated station at Pitsford, about 4 miles north of
Northampton. It's run by the students of Northampton Grammar School, and has
been on line since 1998. It's a bit further north than you are looking for,
but is the only full time one I know of in the county.

Having given this some thought, and a quick rummage through the web, your
best bet is probably to have a word with the Silverstone race circuit. From
what I can see, they don't have their own on-site station, but seem to get
their data from Birmingham Airport. I know they have a station set up on
race days, but I'm not sure if its there and working all the time. It may
well be, recording conditions privately, only making them publicly available
during the big occasions.

You've also got Kidlington Airfield about 15 miles south of you, which
should be recording full time, and there's probably something up at
Towcester Race Course too.

Good idea, Towcester would be a useful comparator indeed.
Walking a dog this afternoon I found one excellent site for a new station in
the SW of Stowe NT area far enough away from roads but not far from the
School grounds. Now to find an alternative on the NE.

Yet another afterthought. Philip Eden, a regular in this group, posts
results from Whipsnade, which I believe is not too far south of you.
