By contrast (so far) this August (9.8mm) has been my driest since 1995
(5.6mm), 2003 (14.0mm). Subsequently my second driest August since I
started in 1978.

We're on holiday in Cornwall next month. Watch out for a marked change.

55.0mm in Penzance so far in August. That's 67% of 1971-2000 norm, so
it has been rather dry, also rather warm, and pretty cloudy.

I think you may be confusing Cornwall with SW England.
