Yesterday, wind off North Sea, drizzle, no sun, one of UK lowest max temps. Saturday light wind off land, 12.5hr sun, 22.3C (23.0C in old wooden screen) one of UK highest max temps. Interesting comparisons atm. Met O plastic screen installed on site a week ago and old wooden screen kept close by for my own comparisons. (Pics of both together on web site in a while for anyone interested). Saturday plastic screen max 0.7C below wooden screen under full sun and light wind. Even yesterday under cloud, drizzle and fresh NE'ly, wooden screen 0.4C higher. Mins roughly in agreement. Interesting. Best wishes, Ken Copley, nr Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham http://copley.website.orange.co.uk |

It _is_ a warm area anyway in those conditions (soil type, lack of trees, higher ground not far to NE) but things can get a bit exaggerated. Mild area + wooden screen sheltered from N-NE winds and an afternoon sun trap, they should rent out sun beds. I seem to recall similar discussions a while back about the effects of shelter from the wind at Brogdale, in certain conditions... http://www.daveludlow.com/weather/solentmrsc_1828.jpg ![]() -- Dave Fareham |

I took the photograph looking NW along the coast, the low garden wall is parallel to the road, on the other side of which is a wide grass verge, then a 30 foot embankment down to the beach. Here's a plan view (Google Maps), the screen should be in the middle. http://tinyurl.com/n5f7dg There's a large and mainly grass airfield 200 yards North of there, I've often wondered why they didn't locate it there. -- Dave |

Indeed it was there originally. Presumably someone didn't like the 200 yard walk. Philip |
