Did anyone hear the 5.57 pm R4 forecast.? Peter Gibbs decided to
deliver it in the style of the Shippimng Forecast, just bare, factual
and informative. It was so good to hear a weather forecast for
grownups without Desparate Dan's silly little phrases or Tomas
Schaffernaker's shambolic witterings and the overall rather weird use
of English that most of them indulge in. Of course, Peter Gibbs had
to give wind directions which was a welcome change because I thought
they'd long given up on anything so technical. I don't suppose it'll
last - not sugar-coated or "entertaining" enough. Don't forget most
of the media are run by excitable teenage herberts.

.... what I would call a 'hands-on', back-to-basics type is Peter: has
the right background & knows how to use the knowledge. Always worth
listening to when he is wheeled in on BBC News during 'big' event.

Jim Bacon was out of a similar mould.
