Yet another dry, warm September day. The summer continues.
Long sunny spells and an unusually windless day. Just a faint breeze every so often, blowing from all over the place. There was even at one point a slight sea breeze but that died away. Maximum gust today so far = 6 mph (could be a record low for a non-winter month). A max of 22.2°C this afternoon after a chilly overnight low of 7.8°C. No measureable rainfall since the 4th makes this the longest dry spell since the 14th Dec - 11th Jan 2009 (29 days). Dare I say, even the grass is going brown in places, especially where it get the sun all day. Lovely down on the beach where it felt very warm in the calm, cloudless conditions. Sea almost flat, barely a ripple. In July or August that would have warmed the sea surface rapidly creating a noticeable thermocline, but with the sun's highest angle at around 40° today, there was little difference in temperature between the surface and a couple of metres down. At about 17°C this afternoon, it's OK for a swim, and that sun still feels strong; strong enough for a suntan and I am more tanned now than I have been all summer. Hard to think that in just a few weeks time the sun will be very low in the sky as the quick flip from summer to winter begins. (17:25), 19.7°C, RH 59%, DP 11.6°C, 1023 hPa (R), Wind calm. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Needed to sit outside in the shade with a beer to cool down after cutting the grass! Very little wind here too but yes briefly a sea breeze this afternoon 1600-1700 local. I'm surprised you are not tanned all summer Nick, I manage to get brown by end of May normally and this year has been no different, or is it rust? :-) Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

I don't feel I've even had a summer yet. In fact, I feel I've been robbed of 3 summers in a row. Popping over to Portugal to visit the outlaws earlier this summer didn't help either as the weather was crud there too. The dreamy, summer days of 2005 & 2006 are now very distant. Still, this spell of very late summer weather is some recompense. A calm, warm feeling evening. The air is polluted with the smell of lighter fuel and burnt fat (again).
