Will,
That's rather childish don't you think? I agree, that previously our forecasts were little better than an "educated" guess but the new forecasts are created through my ongoing work with NOAA, thanks to the American freedom of information and very talented individuals over the pond. "Love begins when Judgement ceases"..... or do you not agree with that Will? I'll be quite happy to discuss my work with you with regards to NOAA in private, assuming I have time and you stop being so judgemental. However, I suppose *all* long range forecasts (including those from professional forecasters) are in part guesswork. Except any I may attempt as they are based on past figures with no manual interpretation needed. :-)) Victor |

I was once told by a "employee" of the Met Office a few months back what
they really think of the previously mentioned sites. (Fully agree with your comments Will). Complete waste of bandwidth IMO, and pointless forecasting which is inacurrate and misleading. Tom Docklands, East London |

Yeah, the Met Office always get their LFRs spot on whereas the
amateurs are always wrong.... If you want a good LFR the best thing is to look at all the available LFRs including TWO, Metcheck, Ukweatherworld and Tom Presutti and from them get a consensus opinion. Slagging off amateur LRFs is just stupid and juvenille - or maybe it's sour grapes because they get it right more often than the professionals? btw: I guess the (non-subscription) MetO LRF for autumn reads something like: "Turning gradually colder and wetter". "Scott Whitehead" wrote in message snip Looking back through my records and George Booth's at Epping, Essex, the winter of 1995 / 96 wasn't particularly remarkable. Three cold spells in mid November, post Christmas / New Year and end of January / early February. George recorded 16 ice days though there wasn't much significant snowfall. Hi, Scott, 16 ice days (max below 0C) in Epping. Surely that is a cold winter? it was certainly cold and snowy here. In fact only 4 'Ice Days' days in Epping (with max 0°C) in Winter 1995/1996. Thin snow cover at 0900 on 10 mornings in December '95and 3 in January '96. December '95 cold (2.7degC below normal) but January '96 normal. Have to go all the way back to the 1980's for winters with a significant number of Ice Days. 1986/87 (9), 1984/85 (15) and 1981/82 (12). Most recent Ice Day here was 30/12/2000. Do they really "get it right more often..."? If this is what you are suggesting, can you provide or link to independent evidence to support it? It's difficult to compare. At least TWO and Metcheck are prepared to publicise their forecasts. All you ever see from the Met Office are vague and almost useless soundbites like 'warm and dry at first, then becoming wetter and windier'. More detailed long range forecasts do exist of course, but they cost several hundred pounds. Col -- Bolton, Lancashire. 160m asl. http://www.reddwarfer.btinternet.co.uk |
