Considerable gusts are also likely across parts of northern England, particularly over and to the lee of the Pennines http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...ngs.html?day=2 Jon. |

snip For those who like to name their storms, it's called "Sören" http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/de/wetter/maps/anabwkna.gif .... I suspect that "Sören" is the *rearward* centre of low pressure (987) drawn on the Exeter 12Z analysis, and the new/explosive deepening was / is taking place along the marked warm-frontal troughing, roughly at the point of the inner warm front wave on that same analysis. If this is the case, then the 'parent' would have had one letter, and the new one the next in the sequence - so although it will probably be labelled "Sören" by FUB, it might more properly be labelled with the next name in the sequence. This happened last winter with Windstorm Paula that affected Eastern Europe - it was called Paula but a secondary low pressure developed that itself wasn't given a name so as such Paula was not responsible for the damage ! If we can't get our own way, let's at least try and get some good British names in there seeing as we're at highest risk from windstorms in Europe in UK and Ireland. http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/adopt-a-vortex/ Come on people - let's get some names from on here - Colins, Keiths and Bernards.
