Not sure if it's the case elsewhere, but here (Southampton) it's
incredibly dark for the time of day (0845) - I know we're now getting towards winter, but it must be more than an hour after sunrise - and in the south of England it's rarely this dark this late even in December. Nick |

Nick Ditto Evershot (WDorset). Just dull here, not dark, but I was woken up by thunder this morning! I woke up, wondered why, and then heard a rumble of thunder. Checked the time and it was ten to three. I couldn't really believe it then and don't see that it was possible. Perhaps I'm suffering from a deficit of thunderstorms this year and my subconscious is supplying them for me when my resistance is at its lowest. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks., UK. Nick For some odd reason - perhaps someone will enlighten me - we put the clocks back approximately one month after the autumn equinox but put them forward more or less around the time of the spring equinox. This ensures that towards the end of October we get dark mornings, with sunrise times only about 30 minutes earlier than those at the winter solstice. Martin |

I don't know the reason, but I am very glad that that is the case. I much prefer light afternoons/evenings and dark mornings to lighter mornings and darkness in the afternoons. I'd opt for double summer time all year round if I could. Anne (In Moray, northern Scotland) |
