Given the discussions Piers on here of late, just noticed this on
the Royal Met Soc pages:

http://www.rmets.org/news/detail.php?ID=541

"During 2008 the Society undertook a series of consultations on the
idea of introducing a Quality Standard for Weather Service Providers.
Following a positive response from both the provider and the customer
community the Society launched a Pilot Project to look into the
feasibility of introducing such a standard, and at the same time
established a Quality Standard Advisory quality standard Council to
oversee this project."

More details on the above link, apologies if someone has posted
already.

Methinks you're mixing up the Royal Met Society with the Met
Office....or do you think they're one and the same thing, Lawrence?

Lawrence has never been one to let the facts get in the way of a good
grumble.
