Phil why on earth would you need logs to burn at 17c?

You are right Lawrence, its warm enough. It was light that was needed.
The small LED camping lights came in pretty useful.

So you have the facility to burn logs and drive and alternator, or was it
that romantic glow from the fierlight as you cough and splutter?

Bad luck, As far as I can tell, there was no interruption in the power
supply in nearby Cranleigh overnight. Still time yet of course, if the
strongest winds occur later today as forecast.

Not impressed by the weather forecast in the Daily Telegraph today,
which doesn't mention the wind at all in the national summary. It does
if you dig down into the regional forecasts, but not everyone may do
that. If there's to be any point in a summary, it surely ought to
mention the most extreme and potentially dangerous weather element in
the forecast. I think the DT gets their forecast from Accuweather rather
than the Met Office.
