The lights went out at 1638, followed a few seconds latter by an
almighty crash and roll of thunder. Power returned after a 9 second
abscence.

Peering out it was absolutly chucking it down, it may have been
raining before but not at that rate the noise of the water pouring
down the downspouts is very noticeable. The AWS indicated 90mm/hr...

Only a couple of degree drop in temperature, the wind dropped from
F4/F5 to F2 for a few minutes. There were a few further flashes if
lighting.

Huge flash of lightning right across the Tyne Valley from Slaggyford
through to Garrigill !! I thought it had struck my vehicle, there was
a second one a few mins later. Best storm of the year ! Wind really
picked up and there was hail. You never know there may have a torndos
in the area ?

Cloud to cloud or cloud to ground?

The 9 second power outage was longer than normal. The auto recloser
on the 11kV line that feeds us normaly only trips out for less than 5
seconds before trying to reconnect the supply. I wonder if any
protection on the incoming 33kV over Hartside was tripped?

Wasn't really aware of much lighting activity and the ADSL stayed
reliable which it doesn't when there is a reasonable amount of
electrical storm activity within about 3 miles.

Wind really picked up and there was hail.

As the front went through the wind dropped.

Too dark to see anything up here. I only know it was really chucking
it down as a car drove past as I looked out and it was almost
invisible through the bouce and rain fall.
