November total 230.7 mm. new record since obs began in 1984. A little
over twice the average. This is also an all time record for a month. Previous record was 219.7 mm in Dec. 1999. Measurements are taken at 1800Z daily. There was no rain 1800-0000Z on 31 Oct or this evening, so no worries here Martin (see todays post). So the 4 week and 2 days period that coincided with November was quite remarkable. More importantly the autumn seasonal period September to November, rather than the lunar period of November alone was also wet with a total rainfall of 364.9 mm (average 276 mm). However this was only the second wettest in my record, Nowhere near the very wet autumn of 2000 which had 469.8 mm. The very dry September this year was significant. I think we ought to be looking at periods unconstrained by these arbitrary divisions of months. Since when have our dear old mid-latitude depressions cared about such things?
