Can recall few such noticeable "day darkness" events as this. Nick Went very dark here, near Benson, Oxon, around 3pm-3.30pm with moderate rain. No thunder or lightning though. Greetings from a very WET Marlow (Bucks)-1656. Day darkness in Marlow at 1515, followed by heavy/torrential rain,- rain rate 121.00mm an hour. Looking at radar returns to south of area, thunder looks a strong threat. Regards Richard Bailey |

Regards Richard Bailey Rainfall was more intense than I thought here as the roads were awash at 5pm.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - No thunder heard here, but certainly an early darkness. The eye is always rather unreliable when it comes to the accurate assessment low light levels, but my solarimeter confirmed global solar radiation fell to zero from 1459z. This coincided with a very un-December like burst of heavy rain, max 39 mm/h according to my VP2 (always seems a bit high on intensity compared with the other TBRs). Rainfall 18 mm since 14z, still raining, quite a bit more than I was expecting from this morning's forecast ... -- Stephen Burt Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire |
