Default [WR] Sun 0940Z West Moors/E.Dorset .. fine morning (now!)

.... after a foul night with moderate, occasionally heavy rain & a
gusty wind, the sun is shining strongly.

24hr rainfall to 09Z 15.9 mm (note Hurn rain, as on SYNOPs, has missed
all the rain of the past couple of days).

7 day rainfall = 52 mm
14 day rainfall = 114 mm
30 day rainfall = 205 mm, roughly twice the 1971-2000 average.

Fields have lots of standing water - coming back from Devon yesterday
the roads were awash in places - and there was more heavy rain to come
at that time.

The welcome change to a regime of higher pressure is strongly
signalled - though the plumes are still very noisy beyond mid-month.
We should have an extended period of dry/drying conditions soon
though, which will be very welcome.

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thats a strange one Hurn - what are they reporting? I'll compare with
the Davis station I run at work at the ATC training college next door.

Here, I have had 14mm to 9am this morning not massively different to you -
site url is below if you wish to run a comparison in the future.

Here - last 7 days (to 9am today) 46.4mm
Last 15 days 117.2mm
Last 30 days 184mm

Last 7 and 30 days about 10% down on you - but last 15 days slightly more.

Jim

.... no idea what's going on the similar problems last month. I
don't think it's as simple as 'leaves in the funnel', but I could be
wrong on that. I get the impression by comparing some of the data with
mine (and yours) that there may be a 'firmware' problem with the AWS
on site, or something not 'firing' properly with the software
algorithms that integrate the rain gauge pulses and produce the
appropriate group in the SYNOP.

Martin.
