![]() In 1966 or was it,67, Hurricane Faith produced one of the biggest ground seas to hit the South West. I was a student working the beach caff on Porthmeor, St Ives. I was also a very keen surfer. We were awoken to a roaring sound from the beach. High tide and Porthmeor was closed out, ie breaking beyond the island, we estimated it at 12-15ft, glassy!! One could see huge swells running up the coast. We surfed the Harbour at 5ft! and Porthminster at 8ft. So Fabian is doing a Faith? It certainly is taking a NW line from Bermuda, So surfers get ready, the Low on Sunday may screw up the quality but Tuesday Wednesday could be brilliant. At my age I'll stop and stare at Whitesands or Fresh west. JT -- , Llangwm, Pembrokeshire 3m amsl "et in arcadia ego?" |
