.... rain between 0100 and 0300Z, didn't (got up once) detect anything
else, and certainly nothing on the ground this morning. Cloud sheet
just cleared across (0730Z) so temperature has just dipped below
freezing.

Martin.

Martin, I think what Evershot got was rain, about the same time as you.
The AWS registered 1.0mm, last tip at 03:08z. Certainly there's what
looks like snow on the ground, even on the road, but I suppose it's
frozen rain. Temp now -2.5C at 07:37z. Sky clear.

Then again, it might be that there was some snow falling on frozen wet
ground after the rain. That would not show up in the AWS if the snow
hadn't melted since. Temp now at 07:57z -3.0C. I'll report again at
09:00 as usual, and see what is in the std gauge.

.... (0810Z): looked at Hurn SYNOPs and all they reported (automatic
sensors) was rain - I suppose if we'd stared long and hard in the
street-lamps then we might have seen something 'white', but my sense
was that is didn't do so.

Just looked around outside: paving/footpaths suddenly very icy - black
ice. Roads are a bit better but still problematic, as the rain has
washed away any treatment.

OAT now -1.3 and still dropping.

Martin.

Ditto what you have said Hugh except that as I was desperately trying
to resolve a tricky Soduku puzzle, I actually heard what I thought was
rain on my skylight. I remember thinking it was def rain so I did not
get out of my pit to investigate whether it was sleet! exactly 0115

Remarkable ups and downs of temperature in the last 12 hours.

Off to Bedford today so I dare say things will become, well, boring. I
thought a few days ago there were going to be some really deep brisk
moving depressions steaming up the Channel, but that seems to be out
of favour at the moment.

Prety much the same here, of course. Rain woke me up in the small hours but
only 1.2mm fell.

-0.8c and still falling having only started to fall away at 0700. Can still
see back edge of cloud to the south.

Not sure if we got anything at all in Southampton (was asleep!) but
nothing as late as 0030 certainly, and it was mostly clear as late as
2300.
Cloud was visible low in the south at just after 0830. Air feels
colder than it did late yesterday evening.
