Default [OBS] Romsey - Wednesday 23rd December 2009

Considerably late but here is the ob I compiled during
our thunderstorm of 2009, the only overhead storm this
year. All electrics, other than indoor lighting disconnected
due to close proximity of exterior flashing... lightning!

2cm covering of splodgy hail and snow, white stones up
to 6mm diameter. Ginormous puddles. Roads passable
but slick with white material.

Well, here it is. A staggering total of 26.2mm fell today
between 0900Z and 2100Z, making this the 2nd wettest
day of the year and we only need another 0.9mm in the
next 12 hours for the 23rd of December to become the
wettest.

.... yes, was thinking of you watching the 'snake' of reds on the radar
and also looking at the cloud development as it went through here.
We've both had some really 'pukka' weather these past 12 hours!

Martin.

Another thunderstorm 2145-2215Z with one mighty
crack overhead at 2202Z. Now the wettest day in
Romsey since 12th December 2008 with 28.3mm
of all sorts falling in the last 14 hours.

I'm looking forward to reading all the reports for
today on here as I've not had much chance this
evening, having to power down every so often!

Back to typing up the 2250Z ob...

Nigel

.... total PPN (mainly rain) in period 24hr to 24/0900Z he 20.5 mm.
Our wettest *December* 24hr standard period here, but that's not
saying much as this is only our third December here. Otherwise, we've
had several occasions in past year with PPN exceeding that value.

A cloudy, 'dampy' morning with sporadic light rain. Surprisingly,
seeing as the temperatures have been above freezing for nearly 18hr,
still isolated patches of ice on paving.

Martin.
