The Azores High and the Icelandic Low seem to have changed places these
days. The NAO has been negative ever since Dec 20th when I started logging it. A negative NAO is supposed to give cold weather not only in NW Europe but also in the eastern half of North America, which it seems to have done. For what it's worth, GFS appears to be gradually normalizing the situation in the days following Jan 5th, bringing the NAO at least up to about zero. I say "appears to be" - in meteorology you can never be sure of anything. Ian Bingham, Inchmarlo, Aberdeenshire. |
