Cor blimey guv'nor, strike alight and all that.

An ice-day here in the Otter Valley with a max of -0.7°C, the first one I
have recorded since moving here in Spring 2005.

And what a cold night with a minimum of -10.7°C. I suspect my new record
won't last long and will be broken very shortly.........

Removed the grass min thermometer probe from its snowy tomb and lay it on
top of the snow. I don't know exactly how cold it went down to because it
stopped working at -15.8°C. I've put some fresh batteries in it so hopefully
it might cope. It should be good for -25°C (I think).

But despite the cold, it was the most stunning sunny day. With very clear,
cloudless skies there was 7.8 hours of bright sunshine giving an amazing 96%
of the total possible.

The sunshine got to work on some of the lying snow, with low dewpoints and
an air temperature below freezing it was interesting to see the snow sublime
away merrily, just disappearing without any liquid phase.

Going off a tad nippy now

(19:30), -7.8°C, RH 83%, DP -10.1°C, 1017 hPa (R), Wind calm.

They'll have to rename it the Colder Valley.
