I agree, my 3 year old Scenic has the sensor recessed in a hole under
the offside mirror and as long as it's out of the sun, you just add
one to whatever it says.

I prefer that location to an under bonnet one, as it seems to be less
susceptible to engine heat when slow moving or stationary. They are
useful guides especially for people like us who know their
limitations.

Thanks, John, I wasn't aware of that forum. Might be able to get one in
time for next winter, then ;-(

Totally OT
We have been thinking of changing to a soft 4x4 (what
with all this weather) but the Yeti doesn't offer DSG with 4x4, which is a
shame.

The CR140 diesel 4x4 Yeti with DSG is rumoured to be starting
production from around May this year.

Listening to the radio over this cold spell and especially the last

This is the result (and increase) of car thermometer (and the text).
What is interesting is the acceptance of accuracy too.

A little fog for us last night kept the lid on a very cold reading.
Min was -13.2 C air.

My thermometer (VW Touran) reads about 1 to 0.5C too low but i would
be sceptical of it any other time than when moving.

As you say, you need to be on the move, not stuck in traffic.

What is interesting are the variations, I'm getting to know all the
local frost hollows. Also, just how rapidly the temperature falls away
from the immediate sea front.

Depends where you are going Graham. Temperature rises by one or two
degrees as you drive into the urban heat island of Plymouth from the
coast at Wembury.

Yup. Before Christmas, went to Woking and back in about an hour. The
evening a pool of cold air had come from the north, not reached
Godalming by say 1830. Something like 5 here, 4 down the road, steeply
down to 2 over last four miles or so, steadily back up to Guildford at
about 4, then variations with terrain and time to 3 on return.
Insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but interesting to watch.
