Default Possible egg on faces to come?

With all the declarations of freezing weather for at least the next 10
days - I wonder what will be said if the latest ECMWF run comes about?
;-)

Yes, I notice that both the main models' 00Z operational runs are going
for a breakdown around the middle or end of next week. The ECMWF
ensemble looks less keen, though.

Any less cold weather next week (and I'm expecting some in the SW) is a
"suckers gap".
It won't last, the upper pattern is cranking itself up for another very cold
burst later January into February with sub 492DAM getting into Russia. Could
make this cold spell look tame! Also as Keith has said the surface air will
remain bitterly cold despite rising thickness values. We are in for the long
haul countrywide with only the far SW likely to see anything remotely mild.

But surely if those charts come off we are only looking at the
temperature going back up to average - 5C to 7C? - before the cold
reloads from the east the following week.
