Default Snow rollers

Just been on BBC 3CR to talk about snow rollers. Haven't seen
any myself but they tell me they've been seen all over the place
around Beds, Herts and Bucks yesterday and this morning.

Perfect conditions: light fluffy snowfall, the slightest of
thaws Sunday to provide cohesion, and then the F4
wind for most of yesterday.

Phillip,

Some sizeable (30cm) snow rollers at Moulton Seas End (SE Lincs) on
Saturday morning. 10cm of loose powder snow and a F5 NE'ly. Some
sizeable drifts as well. Reminds me of 78 or 79 (can't remember
which).
The thaw is a good deal slower today.

.... pictures of these used to be a 'staple' of the 'Weather' magazine
a couple of decades back.

For some reason one image has stuck in the memory ... just
checked it out, it's in 'Weather' for Dec 1979 ... snow rollers
at Coningsby, 2nd Jan 1979.

I'd steered clear of comparing them to ladies' muffs.

Hi Phillip.
Snow rollers on Marlow Football club pitch on Saturday afternoon,
mostly of small size.

Regards Richard Bailey
PS Getting excited about blowing snow late Tuesday into Wednesday
morning, with more photo opportunities.

Ahh! I saw something like that in the fields here at the weekend. I didn't
pay them a second glance, assuming they were bales of hay covered in the
snow (they were far enough away that they looked solid from the angle I
saw).

I can't say I've seen snow rollers before, wish I'd taken a photo now!
