Been heavy snow all afternoon here in Plympton. Started as mod to heavy rain
about 12:30 turned to sleet about 13:00 and was snow just before 14:00

About 2 inches (4-5 cm) slush on all surfaces when picked kids up from
school. Since then prob a couple of cm of snow on top of this. Not so slushy
now since it has gone dark.

BBC SW Spotlight have just said that there are thousands of cars stuck
on Haldon Hill, with traffic tailing back to the M5 / A30 Junction.

In the midst of all this, the severe warnings site has this advice:

"The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways
Agency for further advice regarding traffic disruption on motorways
and trunk roads"

Try finding a *single thing* about snow disruption and hundreds, maybe
thousands of people stuck on the A380 and A38. Surely that is the
single major problem on the UK raod network at the moment. Instead, it
talks about delays of 15 minutes and "Normal traffic conditions
expected from 9:00 pm".

That's absolutely scandalous. no-one should go anywhere near the area
in a car. You'll only add to the problems.

Agencies working very well together as a result of the recommendations
in the Pitt report. That really is appalling advice on the highways
site, which is the major link site to find out problems caused by the
severe weather.

Just taken me 3 hours to go from Exeter to Dawlish Warren - 11 miles.
Due to Haldon Hill being shut the rush hour traffic was diverted
around the coastal road!

Nightmare!
