The expression has a long and distinguished history ... we used to use it in the early days of oil-industry forecasting in the North Sea in the 1970s, and I am sure that venerable aviation forecasters will easily be able to predate that. Trouble is, it can mean different things. I usually think of the 'suckers gap' as being that sudden clearance to sunny conditions behind an active cold front, beforethe blustery showers pack in. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

I hope Will is right though, it's too early to go mild. Nick |

That does still look cold, generally, though wet at times in the south with deep lows occasionally moving up the channel. Nick |

Dave Cornwell writes: It's looking rather long for some of the suckers to be fooled ;-( Dave The ECM 12Z is just out. The operational run still just about brings in an easterly next week, but it looks a rather marginal affair. One interesting feature is that it brings two lows along the Channel, or thereabouts, one on Friday 22nd and the other on Sunday, 24th. That's something new, I think. I suspect that temperatures might be as bit high for snow, though so far I've only seen the pressure charts. And of course 8 and 10 days out is a bit far to be confident that those lows will actually happen. -- John Hall "Acting is merely the art of keeping a large group of people from coughing."
