Following all the recent rain and snow melt (still some piles of snow
to melt yet), the river Loddon burst its banks yesterday in the Sindlesham/Lower Early area. This is the first place the the river floods on to the surrounding fields. By 1000h to day Mill Lane was closed to all traffic due to the flooding, the Best Western Hotel car park was flooded and all vehicles removed 'safely' onto higher ground. The surface water has continued to rise and at 1500h the hotel can now only be accessed by a tractor/trailer 'shuttle' the Poachers PH is 'cut off' by flood water, the Showcase cinema has half the car park flooded and closed off, Winnersh Nursery (opposite the cinema) is underwater and the George PH on the bank of the river Loddon has water upto the decking boards. The A329 Reading Road/Winnersh Triangle junction now has surface water across the carriageway on the northbound and southbound traffic lanes together with the roundabout 'southern' radius. Its a good job that today has been dry, but with the water still rising there could be further problems. Regards Paul Fishwick Sindlesham Berkshire. |

Update on yesterday, Mill Lane still closed due to flooding. This has been joined by Loddon Bridge Park & Ride Service - car/bus park area all under water and Sandford lane Hurst also closed due to flooding. Its a relief that we have now had 36 hours of 'dry' conditions, otherwise the A329 and A327 would be flooded and when they are closed travel becomes very difficult. Regards Paul |
