I haven't updated this for a while, and I know it only encourages
Dawlish but anyway, please see link below which shows the Yearly, 10 Year, 20 Year & 30 Year moving temperature averages for Central England since 1970, based on the Central England Temperature (CET) series published by the Met Office to December 2009. http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/data/download.html Green line = Yearly Average, currently +10.11°c, Blue line = 10 Year Average, currently +10.36°c Purple line = 20 Year Average, currently +10.23°c Red line = 30 Year Average, currently +9.98°c Link to graph http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/p...T1970_2009.jpg Points to note: Green line, yearly average reached a current low point of +9.54°c in February 2009, and is rising again. Blue line, 10 year average reached a high point of +10.51°c in June 2007, and is slowly cooling. Purple line, 20 year average reached a high point of +10.25c in February 2009, and is slowly cooling. Red line, 30 year average is obviously still rising, but for how much longer? Queue Dawlish! |

There will always be such short-term fluctuations. Thanks for the data and graphs, interesting. However, as a 'moderate' AGW sceptic, the first thing that jumps out at me is that in the yearly (green line) averages, we are currently near the lower end of a rising "channel" and unless the lower edge of the channel is broken clearly, there is no reason for me to think that over the next 10 years, it won't rise once again towards the upper limit of the channel (currently around 11.6). I can see signs of a reversal already. If within 10 years the green line *hasn't* risen close to the upper channel line, we can start to wonder if the longer term trend is under threat. But for now, the channel, and hence the trend, is unbroken. -- Dave |

Just like the trend in the last couple of years for an increase in arctic sea ice, albeit from the conveniently cherry-picked extreme low of 2007. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |
