Max today 5.3°C. The nearest we got to snow (at least while I was
looking) was a bit of sleetiness in the moderate rain around midday. Otherwise it was simply cold rain: a really rather unpleasant day. Dried out by the evening, and now 3.0°C. There was snow quite close by, however: cars were coming into Bewdley from the west with snow on, Clows Top (about 230m asl) was apparently affected and the 292 bus from Kidderminster to Ludlow was terminating at Cleobury Mortimer, at least in the morning, because of snow affecting the A4117 over Clee Hill. I've also seen photos of quite deep snow (certainly looked like 10cm+) up in the Malvern Hills. -- Bewdley, Worcs. ~90m asl. |

Certainly in Ludlow where public transport was disrupted for a time. There were also some school closures (Lacon Childe in Cleobury Mortimer was one). The lying snow extended northwards to include Craven Arms and Church Stretton, but petered out before Leebotwood. Some places had 7-10 cm. In Bayston Hill (just south of Shrewsbury, 104 m AMSL) there was a period of about an hour of snow mid morning (no accumulation), but most of the time it was raining. Total for yesterday was 9.4 mm, and the maximum temperature was 2.7. Shawbury (10 miles to NNE, and 25 metres lower) fared slightly better, with a maximum of 3.5, no snow reported, and 7.2 mm of precipitation. This morning, snow is still lying above about 150 metres in the Church Stretton area. Roads in the area between Bayston Hill and Church Stretton were very icy off the main routes. |
