Very interesting totals. I'd seen the reports of very heavy rain in California; even "Steve Wright in the Afternoon" made reference to them and I'm not sure how bright he is (! - no offence to Steve, I quite like him, but he does cultivate that slightly less than highly intelligent persona; though he's far richer than me and just about anybody who posts on here - probably - so maybe he's far brighter than all of us!!). It's almost certainly down to El Nino. The NOAA update, towards the end of the slides I've linked to, has a section which is pertinent to the USA and slide 32 explains a lot.
