Default Heavy snow disrupting north and north east

All schools in Shetland and 34 schools in Aberdeenshire have been
closed because of snow.

A9 treacherous between Bruar and Dalwhinnie. Traffic halted on A90,
Stonehaven by-pass.

So far Shetland has had a rather benign winter, a good northerly is always
interesting up there though, experienced one myself one November many years
ago - fantastic, plenty of spindrift and ice!

I remember walking back down the hill from Lerwick Observatory after a 'do'
there. It was bitterly cold and there was a gale blowing. The wind was
whipping the water off the Sandy Loch Reservoir and it was freezing before
it hit me.
That hurt!

It's not heavy snow. It's ice that is causing the problem because the
Roads Contractor didn't perform on the trunk road network
