With the temperature dropping to -7.1ºC in the screen overnight, January's
mean will almost certainly return a negative value. The first January to do
so since 1987 here. The next coldest was January 1991 with a mean of +1.5ºC.
The only other negative month here since January 1987 was December 1995.
Although December 2009 only just missed out (by less than a tenth of a
degree)
Any negative value for February would give us the coldest winter in this
part of Scotland since 1946/47, and also a negative winter. February would
need a value of around -0.8ºC or lower to break the 1946/47 record.
