A cold month with below average temperature and a daily mean of 2.0C which
was one degree lower than last January. No days reached double figure maxima
with 8.6C being the highest.There were a large number of days with snow
falling but the maximum depth of 7cm was lower than both December and
February 2009.
The mean minimum was only 0.1C lower than Jan 2009 and there was only one
more air frost. January 2009 also had a considerably lower minimum of -7.4C.
This is surprising considering there were 8 days with snow lying. So
considering January 2009 was considered mild, Jan 2010 was hardly an
exceptional January in these parts, although colder than most in recent
years.
