Default [WR] Snowy cold front

Interesting cold front passage currently underway in Wishaw. From
moderate/heavy rain and temp's above 4บC at 6.20am to Heavy snow by 6.30am.
Temperature still falling fast at 6.45am, currently down to +1.4บC. The snow
is already begining to settle, abeit a slushy cover at the moment. The wind
swung 180บ from West to East almost immediately as the snow began, quite a
remarkable feat. Now +1.1บC
Alex.

Default [WR] Snowy cold front

Temp' down to 0.7บC at 7am, snowing heavily and settling readily. Radar
suggests there may be a couple of hours of this, someone better tell the met
office to get a warning out. No warnings covering this area this morning,
and no warnings regarding snow for anyone. And of course, no gritters have
been on the roads. Already a couple of cm's on the ground. Could be a
hellish rush hour for Glasgow and Edinburgh commuters this morning.
Alex.

Thanks for the heads up. We had a few short but moderate snow showers
last night between 1700 and 1900 that put down 5mm or so but it then
warmed up an melted. Overnight it has rained so wasn't expecting
snow... I'm off to Hull in an hour or two, maybe I should leave a
bit early and run down in front of it?

Give 'em a chance to get in and look at the overnight data. B-)

Flash Warnings in place now (0738) but only for Icy Roads in the top
half of Scotland and Heavy Rain in Wales or is that what you meant?

Advance Warning of Heavy Snow for NI and N.England for tommorow.

And of course, no gritters have been on the roads.

If you've had what we have had overnight it would have been a waste
of salt. It's rained at the best part of 2mm/hr since 2100 last
night, 17mm clicked up.

The snow relented just after 10am here, leaving behind a 4cm cover. The
afternoon thawed around half of that. Tricky conditions now, particularly on
pavenments with temp's at -2.5บC. I notice the cold front fizzled out pretty
quickly today as it headed south.
What I found most remarkable was not the unforecast snow, but the 180บ
switch in wind direction. I can't recall seeing that happen so quickly
before.
