Default Does anyone know if these floods in Peru are caused by El Nino?

Machu Picchu mudslides: authorities battle poor weather to evacuate
1500 tourists still stranded

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/ar...-stranded.html

"Peru's Trade and Tourism Minister Martin Perez has said the rains,
which local authorities said caused two other deaths over the weekend,
are the heaviest in the area in about 15 years."

The last big El Nino was in 1998 12 (about15) years ago. Are we in for
a record summer, just like the MetOffice dare not predict?

The resurgence of El Niño means that 2010 could yet be the hottest
year on record
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/ja...-uk-big-freeze

It is a point stressed by Doug Smith, a climate expert at the Met
Office. "The hottest year on record was 1998 and some people have
argued that if global warming is really taking place, we should have
had an even warmer year since then. We haven't, I admit. And yes, the
weather is absolutely terrible at present. However, I am sure things
will change – and we won't have to wait long either."

Cheers, Alastair.

Summer 1998 wasn't anything special in the UK. A warm year globally
(assuming that it is) need not mean a good British summer.

Oh well :-(

But the cold 147 winter was followed by a record warm summer. Perhaps
this cold winter will also be followed with a record summer :-)

We can live in hope. Not to depress you, but I think cold winters are
followed by average or cool summers more often than not.
