Default Today's model interpretation (26/02/10)

Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Tuesday.
Issued 0524, 26th February 2010

The middle of the week will see high pressure becoming established to the
north or NW. This will bring sunny days and sharp frosts by night to much of
Scotland and Northern Ireland. Further south a keen NE'ly will set in, with
showers - perhaps wintry - for eastern areas. Further west it'll be mostly
dry with some sunshine by day but frosts by night.

Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS
Low pressure covers East Anglia, with NE'lies and NW'lies across the UK.
Tomorrow a col covers much of the UK, with SW'lies in the far south and
NE'lies in the far north. Sunday sees a low to the south with easterlies
over the UK. The low deepens to the NE on Monday, with NW'lies over the UK.

The jetstream chart continues to show a weak jet over the North Atlantic.
The UK lies to the north of the jet and at the 500hPa level there's a
westerly flow. ECM has a weak ridge over the UK aloft, as is the case with
MetO. GEM shows upper westerlies and so does JMA.
At the surface, GFS brings easterlies due to a high to the north and a weak
low over the Westcountry. ECM shows southerlies from a low to the west,
while MetO brings brisk easterlies with a high to the north. GEM shows a col
and JMA has a weak high over the UK.

Evolution to T+168
ECM has NE'lies on day 6 as pressure builds to the NW. Day 7 sees a high
over Scotland and strong NE'lies elsewhere.
GFS brings a high over Scotland for day 6 with NE'lies elsewhere. On day 7
northerlies and NW'lies cover the UK as the high builds to the west.

Looking further afield
ECM shows high pressure close to Scotland on days 8 to 10, with cold NE'lies
elsewhere.
GFS has relatively mild northerlies and NW'lies from days 8 to 10 with high
pressure anchored west of the UK.

Ensemble analysis

The GEFS shows cold weather on the way.

Yesterday's ECM was a close match for the mean, which continues to show
temperatures a couple of degrees below average for much of next week.
