Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Monday.
Issued 0514, 11th March 2010 The models are mixed today. GFS shows high pressure persisting and settled conditions for most next week, while ECM shows less settled weather due to a low followed by a trough. Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly above average either way. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS High pressure lies to the west, with WSW'lies for Scotland and NE'lies for most other areas. Tomorrow the high moves westwards, allowing NW'lies to affect the UK. There's little change on Saturday or Sunday. T+120 synopsis http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn12015.png / http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://91.121.93.17/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a convoluted shortwave pattern over the North Atlantic, with the UK on the warm side of the jet. At the 500hPa level there's a ridge from the south, as is the case with ECM. MetO has NW'lies aloft with a ridge to the west and GEM has NW'lies aloft too. JMA has westerlies and a ridge. At the surface, GFS brings WSW'lies and SSE'lies, due to a ridge over England and Wales. ECM has westerlies for all with a high to the south, as does MetO. GEM shows WNW'lies and a ridge to the south, while JMA has WSW'lies. Evolution to T+168 ECM shows a ridge and WSW'lies on day 6, followed by a trough from the west on day 7. By then Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under easterlies, with SW'lies further south. GFS brings a col on day 6 and day 7. Looking further afield ECM shows a trough moving in from the west on days 8 to 10, with rain and strong winds spreading across the UK. GFS has a ridge over the UK on days 8 to 10, with light southerlies and SE'lies. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lond res) The GEFS shows temperatures not far off average over the next week. ECM ensembles http://www.meteogroup.co.uk/meteo/ep...tt6-london.gif The ECM ensembles show temperatures at or just above average from the middle of next week. |
