At long last we should see the break in the persistent southerly jet over the weekend into next week with at long last a good SW jet emanating out of Canada, but it looks like being weak for the time being, so it will not drag the Azores high towards the UK. But it will break our block and introduce some weak Atlantic mobility but not enough to break the deep cold European trough and especially over Scandinavia. This and the colder seas could point to a cold and rather wet Spring. In a way we may end up regretting losing the cold block as with insolation that would have warmed slowly anyway. Just my thoughts, but at least the rain will be welcome for some. I'm not sure about who to be honest though :-) Two weeks ago the countryside was a horrendous soggy mire though the dry past two weeks have improved it somewhat. Would this forecast necessarily apply to the whole spring though, or just the latter part of March? I ask that as the spring is a time of year when typically the same "type" does not persist and often the weather changes rapidly. Presumably there must be some hope for some settled spells in April and particularly (as it's still a way off) May? Also what sort of changeable weather do you see? Will it be 'Atlantic' which at least would offer a good number of bright days in between rain-bands, or a more blocked type with Scotland dry and southern England influenced by lows over France? (which could be very bad in the short term but more interesting late April/May when it could lead to storms) Thanks, Nick ====================== Nick it is just a few thoughts to share and I may be totally wrong. My view would be lows over UK with weak zonality in western Atlantic and high to east. You are right, of course there will be nice warm settled interludes too but overall it could go down as cold and wet on CET/EWR. Will Just a thought, weak zonality with highs persisting to the east, surely that could equate to southerlies ;-) -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net |
