Quite a change in the last 36/48 hours.
The heaps of snow cleared from the falls on the 27th Feb (3") and 2nd Mar (2") have finally gone. They hadn't changed much until 48hrs ago. Most of this thaw happened during Saturday, when I left for work at 0700 Saturday the heaps where still a few feet across and high, arrive back about 2100 and they had almost gone. The remnants of the deeper (5') drifts from the Dec/Jan period are also much reduced, the smaller remnants have gone. The becks are raised in level so the thaw is happening at higher levels as well, there hasn't been any precipitation worthy of note since the snow on the 2nd. There is still skiing on Yad Moss, approx 18" left at the summit but it's starting to get patchy and thin at the bottom. The snowdrops will be blooming properly fairly soon, more of the daffs are above the ground, the most advanced have shoots about 2" AGL. -- Cheers Dave. Nr Garrigill, Cumbria. 421m ASL. |
