I don't believe what the outside temperature sensor says, but the inside one says 24.6 degrees C. Anne Warm and dry in Fochabers, Moray I spoke too soon. There was an ominous rumble a few minutes ago, so I scurried out to take in certain items of garden gear. It has just begun to rain and looks as if it will be heavy. Outside temperature has plummeted suddenly, probably because the rain has hit the sensor. Anne Warm and dry indoors Another spectacularly gorgeous day in South Devon Anne. Just delightful weather! |

Dawlish Oh, it was spectacularly gorgeous here most of the day, thought there was too strong a crosswind for gliding :-( Just that one heavy shower in the evening, too late to be any sort of inconvenience. The Germans don't have the situation where their league is full of non-German players whilst ours is due to the money involved, Our national side is in terminal decline. I think it is too easy to use the foreign infux of players as a scapegoat. Remember in the 1970s when we failed to qualify for two consecutive World Cups? And didn't need to qualify for the previous two! Pretty poor record, if you ask me. [Someone may like to correct me on this one, but I THINK Scotland had qualified for more World Cups than England prior to 1994.] jim, Northampton |

At least you haven't just been knocked out of the World Cup in humiliating circumstances...... It was only a matter of time anyway. England did themselves no favours by finishing runners up in the group stages and leaving themselves with arguably the hardest lineup possible in the knockout stages. If they had beat Germany they would then have Argentina, and then, most likely, Brazil. I think repeatedly playing teams of that calibre would just sap the strength of the England side, even if they were on best form. If they had come top in their group they would have had a much easier lineup and it wouldn't have started to get really tricky until the semi's. |

The temperature hit 30.2C overnight indoors and it's fallen - reluctantly - to 26.9C now. One of the worst night's sleep I've ever had... ![]() At least you haven't just been knocked out of the World Cup in humiliating circumstances...... Now you're assuming that because I live in Scotland I'm Scottish. I'm English through and through. My mother, researching our family tree, became SO excited when she discovered that one of her great-grandparents came "from up north" (i.e. Leicester). I am distraught about the football, but not surprised, and it wasn't as upsetting as, say 1990, and nowhere near as bad as 1970, when as a young boy I was reduced to tears. I think it is too easy to use the foreign infux of players as a scapegoat. Remember in the 1970s when we failed to qualify for two consecutive World Cups? Not many foreign players there, unless you count those from the other home nations. I don't know what is going wrong. We have the talent, you can see that in the Premiership every week, just when they get together as a team it all seems to go wrong on the big stage. And even more remarkably, this is a team that swept all before them in qualification, winning 9 out of 10 games and only losing when they had already qualified. Boy oh boy, are the press goning to have a field day tomorrow morning.... Yes I know OT but Col started it. True, but at least I provided a snippet of weather information!
