Noteable variations in rainfall across Suffolk today.
At 1700 no lasting sign of any rain on the ground in Bury St. Edmunds. 10 miles to east I recorded 9.9 mm 06Z to 18Z Ipswich - 20 Mi to E - much mo See Ipswich Evening Star:- Torrential downpours have drenched Ipswich, causing flash-flooding in parts of the town, while flooding has also been reported near the Post Office in Framlingham. Man-hole covers on Stoke Bridge in Ipswich have been lifting up as the volume of water forces them out of place. One eye-witness said: “The water is so high the man-hole covers are just lifting up in the road.” The rain, which comes after an extended period of hot and sunny weather, is expected to last all week. (Worrying to see that it is going on for a week, and who originated that I wonder?? Jim Bacon on BBC TV this evening said that there had been up 30mm in places. Local radio clarified that there is no Official policy to warn of floods due to 'excessive surface water' NSS Mid suffolk. |
