Interesting this one. The ship HMS Investigator that set sail in search the two ships of the Franklin expedition the Erebus and Terror that went missing in 1845 and itself went missing ; has been found in around 36 feet . of Arctic water. The ship set off with many other US and British ships in 1850 to try and find Sir John Franklin's missing expedition but HMS Investigator found itself frozen in and had to abandon ship woth nearly all the sixty crew surving three Arctic winters until being rescued. The thing for me is that was only a 160 years ago and how treacherous and dangerous those times were, But now thanks to progress and capitalism we can now view the Arctic every day via satellite imagary and remote webcams and the mysterys of the NW passage are revealed to us from the comfort of our armchairs. |
